Adelaide’s No Action continue to span time, marking their tenth year of bandhood with this new single, their first release since 2016’s self-titled LP. PAYDAY finds No Action in more concise and tightly wound form, bristling with the lean muscularity of a kangaroo silently surveying the Lincoln Highway on a 40 degree day.
B-side TIGER HUNT pays homage to powerpop days of yore, as heard from the AM radio of a Daihatsu Feroza hitting the Copper Coast Highway out of Port Wakefield. The ‘Paperback Writer’ of our time, this is the stop-gap 7 inch for call centre workers and cooked kids from here to Whyalla, tiding you over until the No Action road train pulls into On the Run Port Augusta, en route to deliver another platter of bangers.
STEEP BLEAKS, an exclusive b-side to the Payday CD single, emerges from the hiss of an unmarked audiocassette from Blackwood goodwill, a lo-fi oddity found somewhere between surreptitiously recorded phone calls. This CD is packaged in the classic slimline tradition with printed j-card, and is sure to please the more decerning clientele of Au Go Go, circa 1997.
Digital Download includes all three tracks. Physical copies available through Lacklustre Records, independent, DIY, Canberra.
